One of the four games I remember my Dad getting bundled with his Playstation, the other three were Crash Bandicoot, Tomb Raider, Destruction Derby 2.

I never did complete this, thinking I hovered maybe around class 4 and not wanting to grind out money for upgrades (and technically, I guess, this doesn't "complete it").

Again, as is evident by channel content, I don't often play racing games - maybe 1 normal racing game and 1-2 Kart Racing games per console generation at most. Stuff like Micro Machines, this, Midtown Madness 2, and Ridge Racer 6 are the only racing games I've actually played any real amount of. I've had one of the Burnout games too, but I mainly did that for the crash mode.
Oh and of course there was the Hot Wheels GBC Game I uploaded last October that I played a fair bit of as a kid youtube.com/watch?v=zqMJQIma65A

This is Class 1-5 played through to the credits, with wins in every race.
I don't think you actually need to win every race to go up in class and beat the game, 3rd place and a Bronze Trophy seems to be acceptable.

I stick with the default Gnade as much as possible, but for the Oval Races and Class 5 I use other tuned up vehicles. I don't show grinding wins out to purchase upgrades, although in Class 3-4 that's like 3 or 4 wins on the Extreme Oval, so not an awfully long time.

The music is probably the strongest thing about this game, although that isn't an insult to the rest of it. My only real issue is that the drift can feel inconsistent and how annoying the slower cars can be when they hog the track if you don't overtake them at the right moment, which in the higher classes can ruin your chances of first. The other minor annoyance is having to input a cheat code to (shoulder buttons and select whilst painting) to expand the colour palette to a 32 choice RGB one rather than fixed colours.

I'll give timestamps for each Class rather than each race (although will individually timestamp Class 5 races). From Class 3 onwards I start with The Extreme Oval for the easier money making potential and then shift to the courses 1-3. In all honesty the courses are quite slow until Class 4, so you could skip to that, but Class 1-3 show more about learning the game I guess.

As for cars for each course, what worked for me in Class 5 was the Assoluto Fatalita for the Extreme Oval as pure speed was needed.
The Lizard Bayonet with its acceleration worked well for Mythical Coast and Over Pass City courses (the default Gnade might have worked for the first course).
The Age Abeille worked well for Lakeside Gate thanks to its corner taking abilities. Most corners were just a light tap on the brakes for minor readjustments, and only for one corner did I brake hard and turn.
