January 10, 2016 - On the heels of a thrilling overtime winner at Madison Square Garden the day before, Ovechkin came into a game against the Ottawa Senators seeking to edge out Phil Esposito to become the 5th fastest to score 500 career goals. After multiple chances in the first half of the game, Ovi ripped a shot top shelf from his signature spot on the powerplay to earn his place in history becoming just the 43rd player to hit the mark. He would waste no time on the march to 600 and beyond after turning reigning Norris Trophy winner Erik Karlsson inside out to score his 501st and take the league lead in goals - a lead he wouldn't surrender as he finished the season with another Rocket Richard Trophy and 50 goals once again.
