They had forced Game 7 with their most complete game of the year, but none of that would matter if the Caps couldn't get the victory one more time. Despite a fantastic performance in Game 6, Ovechkin was held pointless. In the biggest Game 7 of his career, the Great 8 wouldn't wait long to get back on the scoresheet. Just 62 seconds into the game, Ovechkin rifled home a slapshot from his office to open the scoring for his team. To call it a huge goal would be an understatement, as the team that scores first in Game 7 has historically gone on to win about 75% of the time. Ovechkin would get scoring support with two big goals from Andre Burakovsky before Nicklas Backstrom sealed the deal with an empty net goal, and Braden Holtby became just the 5th goalie to record shutouts in the 6th and 7th games of a series. Ovechkin's goal would stand as the game-winner as he advanced to the Stanley Cup Final for the first time in his then 13-year career.
