March 27, 2009 - Just over a week after scoring his 50th goal of the season against Tampa (youtu.be/DrGBu81aI9g), Ovechkin faced off against the Lightning again, this time with a different milestone on the horizon - 100 points. Hitting the century mark would put Ovi in elite company, as only Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, Peter Stastny, Mike Rogers, and Dale Hawerchuk had ever matched the mark three times in their first four seasons. Ovechkin came out flying with an eventful first period, registering three points to bring him up to 99 for the season. While the scoring slowed down after the first for the Caps, Ovechkin was able to secure his 100th point via an empty net goal to seal the game. 11 days later, Sidney Crosby would join Ovechkin in the rare club, and since the 2008-09 season only Connor McDavid has been able to join the select group of players with 100 points in three of their first four years in the NHL.
