...Having tried most firelighting techniques to me I feel it is most likely that our ancestors first mastered the art of fire lighting by bashing rocks together to make sparks. This especially makes sense as they would of been bashing rocks to make tools & eventually they would of noticed certain rocks produced sparks that with care could be directed to ignite certain tinders.

...This certainly makes more sense than them accidentally stumbling accross fire by rubbing sticks together. Maybe later, when their tool making skills advanced to hand drills & bow drills for boring holes initially, did they notice the smoke from friction but to me it seems more logical that percussion fire lighting came first.
