I watched an interesting approach to making 808 bass using filter self resonance youtube.com/watch?v=V_klnu46KQ0&t=2s and was inspired to try a similar approach on my modular. The 808 patch is based around the excellent State 700 filter from Frequency Central ( frequencycentral.co.uk/product/state700-2 ). The cutoff frequency is being modified by the beatstep, but the filter isn't quite 1v/oct so the tuning is a bit off, plus I should have spent more time tuning in the first place :-D
The low pass filter output is then fed through an envelope/vca and then into the little fish distortion for a bit more bite.
The result is a massive bass which was just calling out for a trap beat. So here is a short jam with it.

I'm a strong believer in continuous improvement and always trying to learn something new. While creating this video I tried new techniques creating an 808 bass using self resonation of a filter.
My DIY Synth Rules

I aim to meet the following criteria when adding modules to my synth:
◦ I must have constructed it.
This can be a kit or from scratch but I must have soldered it
◦ The audio signal path should be analog.
I'm trying to avoid digital modules so I can learn more about analog electronics
◦ Learn something new
Try to learn something while constructing the module. Learn about the circuits, experiment with different signal processing options. Be creative.
