My submission for the Hardware Jams “4 Elements” Weekend Challenge.
As I thought about this challenge I wondered, what would the Amen Break pattern sound like if you played it really slowly and swapped all the drums around?
So that’s what I did. To give you an idea of how slow the amen pattern is, the bass drum is playing the ride symbol pattern. This completely changes the vibe of the pattern as we perceive a lot from the kick drum in music.
I was going full space ambient at this point with a couple of arps (from the freqfm and modular) and a string pad on my Yamaha YS100 keyboard.
I patched in some stereo movement with an lfo panning one arp and a sample & hold with long glide randomly panning the other and some other sounds.
All played through a huge reverb and you have this jam. I hope you enjoy it.

I'm a strong believer in continuous improvement and always trying to learn something new. This week I tried layering multiple drums together to make a huge bass drum sound.
My DIY Eurorack Synth Rules

I aim to meet the following criteria when adding modules to my synth:
◦ I must have constructed it.
This can be a kit or from scratch but I must have soldered it
◦ The audio signal path should be analog.
I'm trying to avoid digital modules so I can learn more about analog electronics
◦ Learn something new
Try to learn something while constructing the module. Learn about the circuits, experiment with different signal processing options. Be creative.
◦ Have fun
