The German National Tourist Board has successfully launched a mixed reality app for virtual reality headsets. The aim is to showcase the diversity of Germany as a cultural travel destination, using the 55 UNESCO World Heritage Sites as examples. This paves the way for a new dimension in tourism marketing. The technology enables customers to familiarise themselves with tourism products in a very realistic and interactive way before they travel – "Walk the place before you go!" Feedback from users and experts has been extremely positive. The DZT was nominated for several prestigious competitions with this project and has received a number of awards for the UNESCO Experience. The findings from this project are valuable for generating content for the new generations of smart glasses with displays that are now coming onto the market. The mixed reality app was also produced in an exemplary and consistently accessible manner so that as many people as possible can use the content. The presentation includes strategic considerations, provides insights into the production process, demonstrates the functionality of the app and shows scenes from the experience. The various distribution channels are also explained – from events to in-flight entertainment on aeroplanes. #Augmented Reality #trends #marketing #destinations #digitalization
