The biggest hit registered by one of Australia’s premier groups – certainly as far as overseas’ markets were concerned. The disc reached #6 in both Australia and the UK and #17 on the US Hot-100. It was Midnight Oil’s biggest hit in both the US and the UK.
The song was featured on the album, “Diesel And Dust’, which ranks as one of the finest Australian albums to have been made. It charted at #1 in Australia, #19 in the UK and #21 in the US. The album spawned four singles, three of which were hits in Australia.
Group member, Peter Garrett, later took up politics and held the office of Minister for the Environment, Heritage and the Arts under Kevin Rudd’s Premiership.
UK born producer, Warne Livesey, had earlier produced the Higsons’ “Music To Watch Girls By” in 1984. He has had an extensive career as a producer, mixer engineer and songwriter; working with such artists as Icehouse, Deacon Blue, Paul Young, Mark Hollis (of Talk Talk) and Sarah Cracknell (of St Etienne).
