I imagine Yukari as having a very cheerful personality and easygoing attitude. She enjoys messing around lightly with whomever she's interacting with, either by tweaking a border to make a practical joke or by leading a conversation into a situation where the other party will feel embarrassed, in doujins this tend to occur due to an intentional innuendo. Short: she's a very happy-go-lucky girl. However, she knows when things stop being laughing matter. When this situation arrives, you can see why she's an entity not to mess with. With the ability to manipulate borders in every sense of the word and an exceptionally bright and intuitive mind, defeating her in either brains or brawns proves an almost impossible task. Actually, my opinion on this fight is that Reimu is the better danmaku player, but has this been a real life or death fight, Yukari would have won. I mean, in Yukari vs Yuka doujin she

Normally a doujin recommendation would be here, but since my doujin collection are, hopefully, trapped inside my computer's hard disk, I can't recommend the best. Tohonifun's still holds the title for some of the best, if most incoherent works relating to Yukari and Ran Yakumo. I believe it would make sense if Yukari came from relatively humble beginnings while she learned to control her powers. Normally we see Yukari in her full glory even 1000 years before Gensokyo's creation. While not an absurd belief since we are talking about the Yukari that dealt with the human and highly unstable Yuyuko, it is nice to see some doujins that deal more with Yukari's older backstory, even if that backstory makes from little to no sense.
I remember the first time I saw Yukari was in IN. Back then I knew her as "that character dressed in white that appears randomly if I chose this team"
Fun times those, fun times. Then when I played IaMP, her status changed to "That one witch that warps time and space that I fight towards the end". It wasn't until I started going into forums, playing other games, and checking the wiki that I realized who exactly Yukari was. Since then, she has become one of my favorite characters, probably due to the aura of mystery she already has and the aura of mystery I added back when I saw her in IaMP as the "witch dressed in white and purple". Adding to that the fact that I first heard "Evening Star" before "Necrofantasia" helped a lot with the entire mysterious personality.
Conclusion: Yukari is awesome, period. Her fights are awesome, her personality is awesome, and her themes are awesome. Hell, I'm planning on doing a Lunatic SWR run with Yukari since fighting as her is like a run dedicated to humiliating your opponents over and over. Try running away from Iku's third spell and crouching while she closes in. Now tell me with a straight face Yukari is taking the fight seriously. Still, nothing tops what Yukari can do to Komachi. You'll see when I get my computer.
