Ichirin and Unzan (hitbox and boss), are the Stage 3 bosses of the game Undefined Fantastic Object, the 12th installment of the Touhou Project. The Touhou Project is a series of danmaku shmups where unlikely situations of eldritch horrors lure brave, little girls into fighting for justice and tea. Yeah, let that sink in.
Fun fact: Did you know that it is practically official that Ichirin's only reason of being is acting as Unzan's hitbox? Is true, ZUN heavily implied it in an interview, making it Word of God.
Another fun fact: Ichirin's is Unzan's spokesperson, since Unzan is shy. Quite hard to believe a traditional old man that looks so intimidating can be shy. Just look at it. He can crush you with his fists... I wonder, if he can physically hurt you with his fists, can he shred you with his body by passing through you? Well, it is more like making you pass through him, but you get the idea.
Back on the beauty scale: Ichirin is beautiful. The first time I saw her, it was meh. I'm not much into nuns. Not their religion, I respect that. Is the habit. It looks weird. That comes from a man with two nuns in his family. However, let's go beyond the habit. While habit Ichirin is nothing special, hoodless Ichirin is quite a character. Maybe it is because it reminds me of a crush, don't know. Case is the first time I saw habit-less Ichirin was in an imitation of ZUN's art. Capture that: ZUN's art and it looked great. Sure, ZUN's art got a big improvement on UFO and I actually missed it in Touhou 12.8 (I wanted to see the Three Mischievous Fairies in ZUN's art), but it still is weird. Nevertheless, I immediately said that Ichirin would look much better without the habit. Then Myonbel (my least favorite Poltergeist due to his ideals and lack of respect for characters, but still a Poltergeist) posted an arrange featuring the beginning image. That is one of the most beautiful image I had ever seen. Ichirin look so gentle in it. Since I saw that image, hoodless Ichirin is... actually, pretty seems to be more on spot, since beautiful also has a personality and background aspect to it. But to conclude this part: I find Ichirin pretty, but her personality still lacks and it is heavily overshadowed by everybody in Byakuren's crew, particularly Unzan.
As for Unzan. Dude, he's, like, a 50 foot tall cloud that looks like a badass kung-fu grandpa and that throws punches at his enemies. What's not to like? I wonder if Unzan was born an old cloud or he was once a child cloud that got teased at school because he was a male cloud stuck with a female, cootie-infected partner. Nothing is crueler than a children. And nothing is sweeter that looking back at those little bastards and telling them "Now I'm always with a hot nun and a group of considerable number of her female friends. ALWAYS." Is good when karma strike backs.
Well, there's not much left to say about Ichirin and Unzan. They are ok characters, but they don't have that much to explore other than "How they met Byakuren?" and anybody can make a good educated guess (read: same way she met Murasa). Maybe, with time, fanon will do its magic. Also, if somebody could answer this, I would be grateful since I'm not sure. Beside Byakuren and Nue, who were sealed? And how did Nue ended up sealed in the first place? The questions...
As for the music, Sky Ruins is such an underrated song. Is hard finding arranges. I was lucky this one exist. Also, wooo IRON. That's all
As for the stage, this stage is hard. VERY hard. Personally, I see it as the hardest stage (not counting bosses) in the game with the possible exception of Shou's. Maybe Nue, but that doesn't count. Particularly, those V formations and the last fairies are very tricky. I did my best and even then I committed errors in the V formations. I actually did better than expected in those last fairies.
