In 1987, David and Yvonne Aburrow started their pig farming business before eventually passing it on to their son.

Since 2000, the company has been owned and operated by Stephen & Cevii Aburrow.

When investigators went to Maysleith Piggery last month, they found sows confined in cages with large holes cut into their ears. In the farrowing shed, there were many stillborn piglets, as well as newborn piglets struggling to breathe

Rats were seen running through sheds where sows are kept in group housing. There were also individual stalls containing boars, who are used to excite the sows when they are inseminated.

Despite the conditions these pigs and piglets are kept in being awful and these forms of confinement leading to misery, what these investigators documented is standard across the industry. That is why we will continue to work towards an end to this industry.
