Bridgewater Estate Eggs has sheds containing both barn-laid and caged-egg systems 🥚

They were previously exposed by Animal Liberation in 2019, when hidden camera footage revealed ‘spent’ layer hens being gassed to death using carbon dioxide. Cameras also captured hens being beaten and abused by workers.

Eggs from Bridgewater are packaged as ‘Victorian Fresh Barn Laid Eggs’ and are sold in Woolworths, Coles and independent stores across Australia.

Earlier this year, anonymous investigators entered the farm to document the conditions inside. They found sheds with chickens packed together on the floor and on perches. The hens were so dense that investigators struggled to move between them, looking for evidence of pecking 🔍

This farm is a clear demonstration of why the egg industry should not be supported in any shape or form. Customers who are looking for a so-called ‘ethical’ alternative to caged eggs indirectly support battery-cage systems with their cage-free egg purchase. When the same company runs both styles of egg farm, they end up profiting from the attempted compassion.

👉 This industry has hidden under the guise of caring about its chickens for far too long. The truth is now clear to see. There is no such thing as ethical egg farming.
