Two live weather broadcasts with Mark [Rick] Amick on then WKZO-TV 3 (now WWMT-TV) in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The first is from the 6pm newscast on May 16th, 1980; a few days after the Kalamazoo, Michigan tornado on the 13th. The second segment from the 6pm newscast on May 21st, 1980, two days after the eruption of Mount Saint Helens.
This was in the pre-computerized weather graphics era, with magnet maps a staple for many broadcast television weather casts. The conventional live weather radar at WKZO was an ADC brand maintained atop the backyard tower of broadcast house at 590 West Maple Street. Technicians could jump between dial up National Weather Service radar returns in Detroit, Muskegon and Marseilles, Illinois outside of Chicago for regional views.
