March 1998: A strong El Niño pattern became established in the later part of 1997 and with it generated a very active mid-winter and early Spring severe weather pattern across the southeastern United States. After a significant series of tornadoes occurred in central Florida with deadly results, MSNBC broadcast this program from the devastated community of Kissimmee.
Hosted by John Seigenthaler, the program mixes in a retrospective of [then] recent tornado stories and events including the tornadoes that struck Arkadelphia, Arkansas [1997], Miami, Florida [1997], Jerrell, Texas [1997], and Oakfield, Wisconsin [1996]. The making of 'Twister' [1995-96] portion of this special was omitted due to copyright.
