I've taken a Matchbox '62 Volkswagen Beetle and turned it into a replica of a car as seen on @TheLateBrakeShow and owned by Jonny Smith. His 1967 VW Beetle 1500 was his first car purchased in 1996 and is still in his possession. After lying dormant since 2004, Jonny recommissioned his Beetle during the lockdown periods with the intention of fully restoring it in the future.
Jonny produces some of my favourite car content on YouTube and so as a little nod of appreciation, I decided to replicate what he called his favourite car. It's a quirky, slightly faded example with additional touches of his own and a nice backstory to it.
Why did I chose this model to recreate Jonny's car? Well it offered the bumper overriders that many other 1/64 scale castings miss and the proportions are really good compared to that of Majorette, Corgi et al.
