Customising a Hot Wheels R0931 DMC DeLorean, in the Hot Wheels mainline range from 2010 until present.
There were a couple of reasons why I wanted to tackle Hot Wheels' official DMC DeLorean release. One was because their premium offers left somethng to be desired. I felt the clear over zamac finish was a little lazy and not particularly reflective of the brushed stainless steel finish of the real car. Also the later versions received Minilite style wheels which just seemed plain wrong!
I decided to give this a coat of Tamiya TS-83 Metallic Silver which for me in the past has dried with a brushed effect almost. I thought I could therefore put it to good use, teamed with some 3D printed DeLorean wheels and a bit of gentle detailing. Sadly, the wheels are just a shade too big and look slightly out of proportion to the rest of the car. Until someone else produces DeLorean wheels, I'll stick with these as the nearest thing.
This Hot Wheels wasn't Mattel's first foray into DeLorean castings. In 1981, they were about to go to market with a licensed model based on the early DeLorean prototypes. But when DMC pulled the plug they had to hastily make it look less like a DeLorean, and so the Turismo was born. Mattel paid homage to this when the DeLorean was retooled in 2015 with a tribute livery to the very first Turismo.
Naturally in this video I condense the short but incredibly complicated and controversial history of the DeLorean Motor Company into 10 minutes, with only one mention of Back To The Future!

![HOT WHEELS Ford Escort MAX POWER Project 2000 @rsjamie9423 custom
This build recreates the iconic Max Power Project 2000 Escort. After my tribute build to it last year for a Diecast Heroes magazine feature, I had a bit of back and forth with current owner of the car, Jamie (@rsjamie9423). In that build, Id used a Majorette Mark 5 Escort where this Hot Wheels Escort Rally is near identical to it, so I promised her Id make a true replica.
The real Project 2000 is a wild build. It was provided to the UK customising and car culture magazine Max Power in the late 90s by Ford UK. The motorsport shell was plied equipment and upgrades worth the equivalent of £150,000 or $200,000 US today! While most Max Power builds of the time were crafted from fibreglass, Project 2000 had a full steel shell to almost meet Group A motorsport standards. It is a proper beast!
To replicate it, there were a few changes that needed making, some major, some minor. Those cast-in rally lamps had to go. That you could consider major. Then I had to tidy up the mess made from that, angle that rear wing a bit, give it some nearly-but-not-quite replica rims, fit a full lime green rollcage that is barely visible through the heavily tinted windows, and then of course provide it with its iconic pink paintwork.
