Restoring a Corgi Juniors Whizzwheels No. 1C Reliant TW9.

I could only find limited information about the background of this Corgi Juniors Whizzwheels model. It is clearly labelled as a Reliant TW9 but all I really discovered was that it came in either cream or orange, like mine originally was, and that it came with a plastic attachment for the bumper to prevent the three-wheeler from toppling over. I wasn't able to tell exactly when it was released either.
The real Reliant TW9 or Ant as it later became known was produced between 1967 and 1987 by British manufacturer Reliant and then a company called BTB Engineering. It was built under licence in Greece until 1995 where it was initially launched. Reliant originally had no intention of selling the TW9 to the domestic market. It was seen as more of a competitor to Piaggio's Ape in continental Europe.
Uptake of the three-wheeled commercial vehicle was positive after local councils opted to use the Ant as a road sweeping service vehicle. Reliant sold the TW9 as a basic chassis together with the fibreglass cabin, allowing customers to choose their own rear section, be it a flatbed, closed van, water carrier, etc.
My model had been poorly painted over. Not a single component of the model had been missed. In what was a fairly straightforward restoration, every last piece had to be paint stripped by whatever means was most suitable. It is a very quirky casting and I'm pleased to have returned it to looking like new again.
