Occasionally we like to revisit projects and make alterations or additions, which took us back to the lion platforms at Yorkshire Wildlife Park. The original structure was built during an event the public could book. It was designed for the older ladies who sometimes use this enclosure to give them areas to rest and get up off the grass. However, on observation, the steps were just a bit too tall between each. And so we returned with a half-day team build to put in the additional steps between each level, making the climb and descent much easier for the older girls. While we were there a tilt feeder was added to the top of the structure, along with a couple of eyelets towards the bottom to allow food to be attached to.
The team did a fantastic job of creating the additions, and although we didn't see the old girls use it on the day, it was great to see the younger rescued lions checking it out and climbing about all over it. As you can see from this video, the younger ones don't actually need the extra steps, but it's perfect to have the options for both sets of lions to be able to use the new area with no issues.
