You have probably seen different variations of the ball-in-a-frame enrichment, and it was great to revisit this design that we tested out at Lakeview Monkey Sanctuary with the baboons at Yorkshire Wildlife Park. For this group of 24 baboons, several of these feeders were made to allow multiple animals to use them at the same time.
The balls are filled with food, and they need to be rotated or lifted up and down for the food to drop out into the feeding tray below. For keeper maintenance, the lid can be opened for the balls to be removed, cleaned and refilled, and the feeding tray can be lowered for easy cleaning.
A huge well done to the group for creating these feeders, you did amazing!
