Lenticular clouds are also known as lenticularis because they are shaped like a lens. They are common over mountains where air is forced to rise and sink, forming smooth clouds above the mountains and downwind of the mountains. When found over fast-growing cumulus or cumulonimbus clouds, lenticularis are also known as pileus clouds.

A rainbow only happens when its raining in the direction of your shadow, with the sun on the other side of you. What you see around the sun or moon is a halo. Its a cousin of a rainbow, caused by refraction and reflection and it could be seen anywhere on Earth, any time of the year, as long as you have a veil of cirrus clouds.
