On the floor of the famous expansive Jordan Hall of Science building at the University of Notre Dame is the quote by Theodosius Dobzhansky in 1972:
"Nothing in Biology makes sense except in the light of evolution." When Peter was a student at Notre Dame in 1972 everybody certainly appeared to believe evolution was a fact. Now over 50 years later Notre Dame university still teaches only theistic evolution and a creationist teacher is very unlikely to be found.
Notre Dame will admit that Jesus and the Apostles taught and believed that God created the world in six literal days and rested on the seventh like the ten commandments and Genesis chapter one says.
But the current Catholic Church almost unanimously takes the position of theistic evolution.
This position forces them to teach that Jesus and the Apostles were wrong on how God created the world.This position is absurd and will not hold. The number of creationist scientists seem to be increasing.
Notre Dame and the Catholic Church may have to surrender and admit they have been sinfully wrong in failing to teach special creation in the space of six days.
They may even be charged with teaching heresy on
this issue by future and current theologians.
In this show Peter reads from Orestes Brownson and his star pupil Father John Zahm.
Zahm was a follower of Brownson and his defense of special
creation against the new and popular theory of evolution. However some time after Brownson died in 1876 Zahm took the very position Brownson fought against.
Zahm wrote his famous book, Evolution and Dogma in
1896 defending evolution. The Vatican in Rome condemned the book because of all its false teaching. It threatened to put the book on the "Index" Notre Dame and Zahm worked out a deal to keep that from happening.
The deal was Zahm would publicly renounce the book and Notre Dame would take all the copies off the bookshelves. But Zahm did not publicly renounce his book and now it looks like his book rules over Notre Dame and most of the Catholic Church.
