On November 25, 2024. A Walmart employee called the Ashland Police Department to report a male and female who had just pushed a shopping cart out the back door with approximately $2000 worth of merchandise. While responding, an officer observed a female walking that matched the description carrying two Walmart bags. When she saw the officer, she fled and was later located hiding under a boat. She was ordered to come out and crawled out from under the boat. She was patted down for weapons and placed in handcuffs. The female first identified herself as Melissa but the officer knew that her real name was Katie and that she had used Melissa's name on multiple occasions when talking with Law Enforcement. When confronted, she admitted that her name was indeed Katie and not Melissa. Katie also admitted to having active warrants. When questioned if the groceries she dropped across the yard were stolen, she replied, "yes they are." Katie was transported to the Ashland County Jail and booked for the warrants. She was found guilty for Shoplifting and ordered to pay a $263 fine. The male party was never located.
