If you’ve ever used Windows 3.1, and gone into the Control Panel to change the system colors, you might have a theme called “Hot Dog Stand”. Well, my Performa 6118CD has a hardware fault that makes it look like I enabled that theme across the entire computer, including startup and down.
Since reflowing the HDI-45 connector last week failed to resolve issue, it looks like on both of my HDI-45 to DB15 video adapters could be defective… but it could still be the logic board. Without access to more hardware, I can’t narrow the issue down further.
Except that I bought a Power Macintosh 6100/60AV from eBay because it had the AV card, and more importantly, the right angle adapter installed. Now I potentially have another logic board for testing my adapters, as well as a path forward for a better video card.
Will the Power Macintosh work? Will it have global “Hot Dog Stand” Mode enabled as well? Will I break plastic removing parts from it? And will I have enough good parts at the end of the stream to build one good 6100-series Mac? You’ll have to watch to find out!
