This is a Bulgarian Split Squat "Machine" made out of a barbell and a rack (and a bench)... and DANG does it work.
If you love pushing your leg training hard, you're going to love this setup. This setup will just HAMMER your glutes and thighs.
I don't find the bar resting on the shoulder like this hurts at all. The fat end should rest on the meat of the upper traps.

It follows the ideal movement path of the body for the exercise pretty much perfectly (arcing up and back).
It's simple to progress the weight, it helps with stabilization and it finishes at the bottom, so you can push your legs until you REALLY can't do another rep.
