Rules:
- This is a low level run of zombero's hardtype mod: romhacking.net/hacks/3299
- The aim is to keep XP gain as low as possible without affecting my sanity.
- Hard mode, obviously
- No stat boosting items
- All other game mechanics are fair game!
Hardtype changes:
- HP: 8500 → 30000
- Beast Eye → Dragon Eye
- Retaliate → Avenge
- God's Curse now deals mid-heavy almighty damage and inflicts Curse/Nerve ailments only
This is a rarity. Since Samael offers nothing but avoidable XP to LL routes I usually skip him, but I decided to showcase him this time. As with Futomimi I used 0 XP cheats although I didn't end up saving after anyway since this is a waste of good Luster Candies. Now I have Wu Kong with Debilitate I can set up max buffs in a single round (well, as long as I micromanage the team's agility correctly, more on that later) and go to town with a combo of focussed physicals and Mjolnir shocks for extra crits. This is the best way of dealing damage to neutral affinity targets in hardtype and you'll be seeing it plenty more for the rest of the run.
As for Samael himself, he's not too bad. I think this fight can catch people out because it really sucks if you're not prepared, but all you need is a fast Prayerbot, some fire immunity, and a way to quickly undo those annoying Rakukaja stacks that he follows up God's Curse with (he seems to perform this script every 2-3 rounds). Dekaja + Taunt is the best way to do this, and a phys resist magatama means Demi can easily tank his counters even if he's at +2 attack... not that he'll counter at all if you shock him. With a little advance planning I was able to get all of this using demons I'd already made, which is always satisfying. He will occasionally strip all buffs with Dekaja & Dekunda at low health, but we can easily reapply them so this is a non-issue.
