He's a sexy dancer (but no-one loves him)
Rules:
- This is a low level run of zombero's hardtype mod: romhacking.net/hacks/3299
- The aim is to keep XP gain as low as possible without affecting my sanity.
- Hard mode, obviously
- No stat boosting items
- All other game mechanics are fair game!
Hardtype changes:
- Black Rider HP: 4600 → 16000
- Legion: Makakaja/Hell Gaze → Tarukaja
The most surprising roadblock of the run thus far. I never would've guessed this would be a problem boss, but he gave me almost as much trouble as Dante 1. The issue is the constantly looming threat of Megidola then double Tarukaja followed up by another Megidola, or Megidola and double Tempest. Of course these can only happen if the first Megidola connects on all 4 party members, but it was surprisingly accurate even with full speed buffs so either his luck stat is through the roof or my IRL luck stat is through the floor.
The Legions no longer seem to use Hell Gaze, but instead have a very aggressive Tarukaja script that forces you to carry War Cry. You must keep their attack at -2 or else risk dying to Megidola + a single Tempest. Muting them is an option, but their 80% resistance to all ailments makes it rather unlikely to pull off in a reasonable time frame so you may as well just try and win. Oh and they have 6000 MP, so don't think draining their mana was ever an option either.
I decided to finally get Life Bonus here. Although Ankh isn't the optimal Magatama it really didn't make much difference to the main source of defeats (only one time would I have been saved by void ice, and another by resist phys, while all the rest were from Megidola). I found myself wishing I'd gotten it during Ongyo-Ki, but no doubt that would've created problems of its own in a similarly hellish fight. There are maybe a couple of ways I could've optimised this team more (spreading Endure around) but not without a completely disproportiate amount of effort. In the end I just persevered until I pulled off this rather shaky win. At least the mod's living up to its name.
