He eats his own babies
**This is a low level challenge run of SMT: Digital Devil Saga. There's only one rule this time round - no gaining EXP outside of forced encounters**
Catoblepas - A straightforward fight as long as you keep up a Void Death shield and exploit his fire weakness so he goes down quickly. It can get ugly when he starts casting Psycho Rage but you should have Revival Gems to spare at this point. Don't waste time buffing too much as his removal AI is pretty good.
Isis - I'm fairly sure it's possible to blitz her before she summons reinforcements, but it would take 3 rounds so she'd have to open by attacking twice in a row. After an hour of never seeing this happen I gave up, but as penance for my lack of dilligence I only let one character absorb the EXP. Seem fair? The fight itself is easy - Taunt, blast her with fire and keep a Fire Repel shield up.
Nidhoggr - Another one where I wanted to minimize EXP gain... he won't summon reinforcements as long as you just let him eat all the little ones himself. This results in quite a long battle, but it's not unmanageable. Keeping Void Ice up stops them from overwhelming you early on, and keeping them damaged with Ma- spells can bait them into wasting turns self-healing. Once he's fully grown he'll start casting Megidolaon, but his Dekunda AI goes into overdrive and you can take advantage of this by just putting a single debuff on him - a lot of the time he'll waste his turn removing it.
