A Special Occasion Cake, serve with coffee or champaign. This is a Vincent Price recipe.
Cake:
2 sticks butter (227 grams)
1 cup sugar (200 grams)
3 eggs
2 cups flour, then sift (240 grams)
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 and 1/4 cups sour cream (283 grams)
zest of one orange
1 cup chopped walnuts
1. Cream together the butter and sugar.
2. Beat in the eggs, one at a time.
3. Add your baking powder and baking soda, or sift with your flour.
4. Add in your flour and sour cream in stages, ending with flour.
5. Stir in by hand the orange zest and walnuts.
6. Pour batter into your bundt pan, bake in preheated 350F oven for 40 to 45 minutes or until done.
7. Pour sauce/syrup over hot cake, then cool to room temperature.
8. Remove cake from baking pan to a serving plate.
9. Pour over the glaze.
Sauce/Syrup:
1 cup orange juice
1/2 cup sugar
1/3 cup Grand Marnier
Glaze:
1 teaspoon almond extract
2 Tablespoons water
1 and 1/4 cups confectioners sugar
Then you can add some sliced almonds on top if you wish.
You can always make more glaze. Mix the glaze in a 2 cup glass measuring cup, that way if you want to make more you can very easily.
This makes a small/medium sized cake with 6 to 8 servings.
