While 'Godspell' was basically a folk-rock musical, it made room for a few novelty numbers, like this vaudeville throwback 'All for the Best'. New York locations seen here include Lincoln Center, the Times Square Accutron sign, and the Met, finally wrapping with the performers on the unfinished roof of the World Trade Center's North Tower. (Elevators only took them so far; they had to climb the last eight stories via scaffolding and ladders.) The young fellow portraying Jesus is Victor Garber ('Alias', 'Legends of Tomorrow', etc); he played the role a year earlier in a Canadian production with Eugene Levy, Andrea Martin, Gilda Radner, Dave Thomas, Paul Shaffer and Martin Short. (That would have been something to see.)
Godspell was in stereo when first released to theaters, but on DVD, Blu-Ray, and streaming, the audio is mono. Synchronizing the stereo tracks with the film revealed that the latter half of the pre-recorded song had been slightly slowed down during the shoot, possibly because it was too fast for the troupe to negotiate (especially when you're on the roof of a skyscraper).
