Final Fantasy IV: Ultima is a hack by 8-bit fan that aims to present a more expansive version of the classic. New weapons, spells, bosses, and a modified overworld are just a few of the changes on tap.
The latest version of the patch can always be found here:
romhacking.net/hacks/4134
Version being played: 21.5
The 3rd wave of the boss rush features some battles that go all the way up to the end of the Giant of Babil. As per usual, there's a few interesting combos thrown into the mix of battles...and me being a smartpants with the refight against the four elements. Weapon that drains hp + attacking an undead enemy = One dead bard.
First, Golbez deciding to pull a Zemus and split into three separate targets. His physicals can actually sting quite a bit for characters with lower physical defense, typically DK Cecil or Edge due to their dual wielding nature. Even better when they have access to Eclipse which will kill a target. Might be a counter to white magic though, not quite sure.
Right after that fight, Odin decides to one up Golbez and split into EIGHT targets. Zantetsuken you probably could survive by now, but not eight of them in a row so this is still a damage race. So long as you have two strong AoE damage dealers (any two of Rosa/Porom/Rydia/Palom works great), you'll bring them down long before they can even think to raise their swords.
The final battle of the 3rd wave brings back Warmech, but this time it brings some proper mechanical might in the form of three Omegas. Just need to be careful of moves like Blaster, Laser, and Quake from the four legged monsters. AoE damage once again cleans up nicely here.
Rewards for clearing the 3rd wave are a pair of Lunar Shields and an Anti Matter.
Seems rather tame so far, doesn't it? Well, I need to do a bit of grinding because everyone sans Rosa has an hp total ending in an even number.
More next time!
