Final Fantasy IV: Ultima is a hack by 8-bit fan that aims to present a more expansive version of the classic. New weapons, spells, bosses, and a modified overworld are just a few of the changes on tap.
The latest version of the patch can always be found here:

Version being played: 12.1
New version has come out with more new content and bosses to sift through. It all requires a new game though so why not take a look at some of the new bosses shall we?
Starting off today, we're at the Chocobo Forest just north of Troia. The Dark Elf's been defeated, but there still remains a new locale that just opened up to the east of Troia. Marked by a small forest near the ocean and surrounded by the rest of the trees in the region, it's the Mystery Forest that lies in wait.
The Mystery Forest has enemies you commonly run into around the area like Cave Nagas, Cave Bats, and even some Echidnas. Nothing that poses a threat really.
The gimmick? The Mystery Forest only has two areas to it. The first area has a bunch of warps, five in total to be precise. You think you'd have to go through them in a specific order to proceed...not quite. The warps are arranged in a X style pattern. You'll start at the center of the X...then all you need to do is take the warp in the northeast to proceed.
Before taking that warp though, there's a couple hidden items in near the northwest and northeast warps. Silver Seed by the northwest warp, Gold Seed by the northeast one. Good stuff!
In the second area, it's a straight shot until you find someone guarding her precious campsite. Make sure everyone's healed up because upon talking to her, she's not happy the Dark Elf outfoxed her to the Earth Crystal's acquisition. She becomes her chippy self when she realizes she can kidnap Cecil and turn him in for some money, being he's wanted and all.
For this lovely individual, she's skipping out on the cheap poisoning trick she pulled on a certain princess of Tycoon from FFV's universe and going straight to the fight. You guessed it, it's Magissa!
Magissa manages to back up her talk about kidnapping with her surprisingly dangerous offensive force. She has tier 2 spells that sting and a physical that heals her for the damage done. On top of that, she has a few different ailment inflicting attacks like Sleep Gas (AoE sleep), Cold Snap (AoE blind), and Entangle (paralysis).
Given her hp drain from her physicals, taking her out now seems like it'd be impossible, if not extremely hard with this team. Cid though makes this all possible and it's due to his Tools command. In particular, one move is the linchpin that makes this fight beatable right now, Beam.
Beam, if you've forgotten, is a move that hits a target for 10% of their max hp in damage. Enemy skills in a player's hand can be either balanced or obscenely broken. Here, it's a bit of both really. Each shot of Beam does 1800 damage on Magissa. Even with Cid being really slow and Magissa's physicals healing her, she can't outheal that kind of damage on top of whatever the guys can get in.
She gets wise to this strategy shortly after she summons...well, not her hubby Forza she ditched in the FFV universe, but rather a garden variety Mad Ogre. The Mad Ogre's damage is not to be taken lightly and it's rather bulky. Sadly, it's not bulky enough to survive an attack from a focus'd Yang.
The issue here is twofold...first, Magissa's treated as being in the back row so long as the Mad Ogre lives, greatly limiting your chance to do any noticeable damage with anything other than Beam.
Second? When her health starts dipping low, she tosses in one final wrench to break past, Absorb. This heals her for an amount that I presume is based on her remaining hp. When she starts using this, it's usually healing her for 2500 or more hp. Cid really needs assistance from the rest of the team to out damage that, but with the Mad Ogre in the front row, that job can be a challenge, especially when constant healing is required.
Where's Tellah in all this you might wonder? Getting to know the ground quite well cause he got dropped a good three times here. One of those came after an Ice 3 got dropped on Magissa for a solid 1.5k damage. Tellah got a counter Ice 2 in the face and went down, but that one single Ice 3 is all I needed to turn the tide. Once Absorb started healing for under 1800, it didn't even matter if Cecil & Yang's attacks did low damage. That damage was enough to outheal it at this point and soon after, she fell.
As for the Mad Ogre? Cid trolls him with the most broken tool skill ever, ElectroMg. This inflicts stop on the target...a really long duration stop...that works on everything, bosses included.
Drops here aren't the best at first (besides that Strength Ring I presume the Mad Ogre dropped because I'm lucky), but the pots at the campsite have some goodies, one of them being the coveted Bandit Sword.
More next time!
