Final Fantasy IV: Ultima is a hack by 8-bit fan that aims to present a more expansive version of the classic. New weapons, spells, bosses, and a modified overworld are just a few of the changes on tap.

The latest version of the patch can always be found here:

romhacking.net/hacks/4134

Version being played: 21.5

The boss rush fiesta comes to a close today with the final wave. Only four battles, but the first battle is your only breather here. The rest are quite nasty.

The first battle is against ZeromusEG. The only way he's going to register kills if he tags someone with Tornado that's been struck by Virus, Bio, or Big Bang's hp sap effect. Otherwise, easy fight.

The second battle? Two Shinryus. The big problem here lies with the fact that Supernova can ruin your day if it come out at a bad time..like when they're low on hp and switch to Atomic Ray counters full blast. You can pop off one or two big AoE attacks like Neo Bahamut to open up, but after that, it's best to stick to single target nukes. Be ready to toss a Megalixir after every action as well. The last thing you need is a Supernova while someone's charging up a move and you can't heal in time before it fires off.

The third battle is against 8 Crystals from the Crystal Spire. Potentially very deadly if you drop their hp enough for them to spam Crush. I like to open up with an Ultima & Neo Bahamut while Edward salves a Lunar Curtain to keep everyone safe from physicals and errant Megaflare casts. The other two party members should just dispense heals if you're heavily damaged from the dual Shinryu fight or pass their turns.

Once a second Ultima & Neo Bahamut get charged up, Edward waits on his turn. When either of the above moves fires off, have him salve a Void Stone or M-Cannon (former's better for damage) while the other spare party members throw attack items as well. You should be able to nuke most, if not all of them, by the time the two above spells have resolved.

Got that? Good, because the final fight is not one, but TWO Neo Bahamuts. Tera Flare is much more reasonable to withstand this time around, but it can still randomly nuke people if the stronger variant gets used.

For these critters, you could maybe pop one damaging AoE to start. After that, just rely on single target nukes, being mindful to watch the damage you deal. Once you do around 30k or more damage, Tera Flare can and will get used with impunity. You really don't want to bring both of these dragons to that breaking point at the same time since that's probably a party wipe.

If you persevere though, the rewards at the end are an Ultima-II, Apocalypse, Celestial Shield, 1 Void Stone, and 3 Globe199s. That shield has protection against basically everything AND boosts all stats by 30. Crazy, but it helps out if you're playing a new game plus (Get to keep your equipment as well as character level and stat caps greatly increasing).

With that, I think it's a safe bet to say this playthrough can FINALLY end. Been going on way too long, mainly because I kept wanting to restart for new features every other week, heh.

As for my next project, there's a Chrono Trigger hack I want to show off once I've had a bit of extra time to relax.

Before closing this vid out, there's one last thing. If you feel like going back to the boss rush arena, you can finally talk with the so called mute black mage. He's no longer mute and claims you are going to fail against some vile enemy horde. What horde exactly?

In one set of enemies....3 Shinryus & 5 Crystal Dragons
Another set...8 Mariliths that back attack the party
Finally, the 3rd enemy set is...EIGHT Neo Bahamuts. Hoo lordy!

I'd suspect I may need new game+ increased stat caps in order to have a small chance to survive. If I get bored one weekend, I'll give the extra fights a few attempts.

Until next time!
