Time to get cracking on another sidequest!
If you head south from Medina, you may notice a tombstone of sorts. This is part of the Choras region which you haven't been able to access until the Epoch could fly around. Lots to look at, but let's see what's in those ruins to the north of town, shall we?
Inside the ruins, there's a rather strange knight fellow blocking off the western stairs. If you speak to him, a fight starts and the oh crap moment presents itself...this knight is Cyrus, Frog's soldier buddy before he got torched by Magus in 600 AD.
Right away you're going to notice something's wrong...magic does 0 damage and everything else misses. Cyrus will only attack once before the fight ends and, if you have Frog in your team, will converse a bit. We'll need to see if we can find a way to quell his spirit.
For now, go have a chat with the people around Choras. Most reference the Northern Ruins, but take note of the one guy who's guzzling down massive amounts of sugar.
When you're done talking to everyone important, hop on the Epoch and head to 600 AD. Choras has a shop available that sells Mid Ethers and other various consumables. Stock up if needed, then check out the villages. One of them has four guys upstairs mentioning their boss at the cafe.
In the cafe, the boss is here, but he seems to have lost his tools. Sucks to be him, but we can get him some tools right now. Before that though, there's another important person in this cafe, our old treasure hunting buddy Toma. He mentions finding a lead on the fabled Rainbow Shell, then hands over his pop. If anything were to happen to him, he wants you to pour this on his grave.
With this in hand, return to 1000 AD Choras and go check out that tombstone on the island. Turns out this is Toma's so pour that pop on his grave. This causes his ghost to pop out and confirm where the Rainbow Shell is. We'll be checking that out very soon.
For now, go to the in and talk to that guy with a major sugar addiction. Turns out he has some tools and is willing to hand them over. Just need to go pick them up from his wife, then take them to that boss in the 600 AD cafe and he'll begin doing some maintenance at the ruins.
When you arrive at the ruins, he mentions that there's enemies afoot down the western staircase and they must be dealt with.
The enemies down the western staircase consist of only Sentrys. Immune to physicals so magic is the way to go.
When they're vanquished, return to the boss's house and pay him 2000 gold to have him continue the repairs. Same deal with him requesting you to deal with some monsters, this time down the eastern staircase.
Before you do that though, head down the western staircase and make sure Frog's in your party. There's a chest with a Hyper Ether, but more importantly the room to its north is accessible and inside is Cyrus's tombstone. Examining it with Frog at the lead starts a cutscene where Frog & Cyrus's ghost have a touching reunion.
Once their goodbyes are said, Frog's Masamune gets antsy and splits back into the Masa & Mune buddies. What happens when they decide to fusion dance and reform the blade? An upgraded Masamune! No extra effects beyond what it originally had, but much higher attack power.
Back to ghostbusting, there's a few groups of monsters to slay, all of them easily nuked. Once they're gone, go back to the boss, pay another 2k, then return to the ruins to find out they've repaired all they can.
When you return to the room that had all the skeletons, you can access two chests. One has an Elixir while the other a very good Moon Armor (+10 magic def, male only).
Continuing north through the door, there's the final room with two last sets of ghosts to deal with. Among them is the final new enemy called a Base. Talk about the most odd name for an upgraded Shadow from 2300 AD...and an enemy that can very quickly kick your ass if given the chance.
The two chests those ghosts were guarding consist of a Shiva Edge & Valkerye. The former is for Crono and, if he crits with a normal attack, will deal 4x damage.
As for the Valkerye? Has the same 2x dmg vs Exotic enemies as the Siren, but features higher attack power and a 40% crit rate.
To close out the video, a couple bonus clips. In 1000 AD, there's a Soda Tab by Cyrus's grave.
The other bonus clip...remember that rock thrower at the Denadoro Mountain? Turns out that upgraded Masamune lets Frog catch one of the thrown rocks which is a Gold Rock.
More next time!
