This location is important for two reasons. One is the Picket Fences magazine you'll find in front of the cage, and the other is Cait (a companion you can pick up for your travels). Kill all the raiders and agree to take Cait with you and you'll have a companion. The actual fight is ridiculously easy. There's about 10 or so raiders that attack you all at once, but they're low level nobodies. Just take them out, grab the magazine, and get Cait.
