This is by far the hardest enemy I've faced so far. I managed to down him on my second try, but only through the heavy use of drugs (med-ex and psycho jet). Psycho jet is amazing stuff. I highly recommend using it for difficult fights like this one. I would've been mincemeat without it. The shotgun is definitely the way to go against deathclaws (at least at my level it is). I was level 20 when I fought the deathclaw with considerable perks in damage resistance (20 point reduction along with 30% reduction from lone wanderer). He still took half my life in one hit. I was lucky he charged into the wall and took a second to get his bearings. Though really with psycho jet I still probably would've downed him. Use the stuff. It's amazing.
