...So after the disappointing result with my hand crafted clay spindles I thought I'd improvise & I made an assortment of inserts from broken plant pot bases & ground river stones.
.
...As you can see the results were mixed. The river stones were burnishing whereas the fired clay inserts were cutting through too fast. I got pretty close but I could see I'll need a thicker hearth & a wider insert so as I said: To be continued.
