...The other day I posted a picture of some aerial roots I collected from a strangler fig. They make great instant cordage & come in long lengths that would be ideal for lashing things together but my acid test to test natural cordage is to see if it will stand up to the bow drill.

...Some vines & roots become compromised when wrapped around the spindle & tend to fray & shred once you start drilling. This fig root however seemed surprisingly supple & I could tell after the burn in that there was more than enough integrity to get the job done.

...It's surprising what 'instant cords' there are once you start to experiment. From roots, vines, strips of bark & I even saw @nwprimate get the job done with seaweed & twisted spruce whithies too so don't be afraid to try new things. The worst that can happen is they break but if you don't try you'll never know.
