Hello neighbors, it's Brad here from etrailer. And today on our 2026 Jeep Wrangler, we are going to be taking a look at installing the Blue Ox Universal Diode Wiring Kit. When it comes to flat towing your Wrangler down the road, there's going to be five main components that you're going to need to have in order to be safe and legal. The first one is going to be the base plate that attaches to the frame of the vehicle and creates a structural mounting point to be able to tow the vehicle down the road. That's going to attach to our tow bar, which is the connection point between the base plate and the hitch on the RV. And just like pulling a trailer, you're going to have safety cables that you're going to attach in case of a disconnect.
It's going to keep everything all hooked together. Going along with that, you're going to have a braking system that's going to slow and stop the vehicle as you apply the brakes on the RV, but also we have a breakaway cable, which is going to be the last line of defense. If everything was to fail, it's going to pull this cable and apply the brakes on the vehicle so it's not rolling down the road. We also have diode wiring, and that's going to transmit the light signals from your 7-way on your RV to eventually the taillights on your Jeep. And in our case today, we tapped into diode wiring for our braking system, so many times it's going to be required and that's going to give you your running lights, turn signals, and brake lights, keeping you safe and legal in the process.
Now, you're also going to need to pick up a 6-pole as well as an umbilical for all of this to work. But you can also pick those parts up here at etrailer and sometimes depending on the tow bar that you pick up, they'll have at least the umbilical and sometimes the 6-pole included. So there's a few different ways you can get all of that set up. Now, diode wiring has kind of become the new way to get light function on your flat tow vehicle. You've probably seen stick-on lights, but that's one more thing that you have to store and generally a lot of vehicles now aren't magnetic.
So this really makes it a nice clean installation because it's going to utilize your factory taillights and it does require splicing into factory wires, but this is a super reliable system and it's pretty easy to do overall. So I'll be walking you through the process on how to get this installed. Truly the hardest part is, well, just going underneath your vehicle to route the wires back. And something I will suggest is depending on your braking system, you may want to pull that up into the engine bay to tap into that. But if any of this scares you off and maybe some of the other flat tow components are having you worried because you've never set it up before, well, we have a way to get that all fixed for you by using our installer locator.
That'll allow you to find someone close to you by putting in your information and finding a shop that can get all of this set up for you, and that way you don't have to worry about the installation. Now to get diode wiring installed on your Wrangler, it's actually not too terribly difficult to do. And something I will recommend, depending on your braking system, is check and see if it ties into diode wiring. In our case today, it will. We're using the Demco Stay-IN-Play DUO, which is a great fixed system and it does require tapping into them. So with that being said, I generally run up an extra length into the engine bay. You don't necessarily have to do that if your system doesn't require it, but it's also not bad to do it. It's a nice safe path through all the suspension that's underneath the Jeep. So the first thing that we're going to want to do is if you can get your mounting bracket mounted up, I just self-tapped mine into the bumper here. We did catch the metal lip under there. And you can grab a decent length of wire to stick out past the bracket. That's going to make it a lot easier
