Hi, Matt with etrailer. Today, we're gonna talk about the Benton MoveHitch "Stay in the Tray" cargo carrier on the back of our 2022 Airstream Interstate 19. So this is gonna be a great option for your Airstream, especially since you can keep any of your items that are a little bit larger, that you can't fit inside of here, outside. Or if you have anything that is a little bit dirty from your camping or that has some spillage to it, you don't want that getting inside your actual Airstream. Out here is gonna be a much better spot for it. And this kit actually comes with everything you need.
It's gonna have a way to hold down your gear and a way to hold it in place. And what I like about that is since we do have this netting on the very top, it secures it from a lot of different points and it gives you a really good hold, and it's really easy to put on. But it can tilt with this too. So all you got to do is press this button, use my hand and my knee. This will drop down and it will allow you to open up your door.
Now I will say it's barely closed right now. If I just let it be, it is gonna make contact with this. If I just put a little bit of weight in this corner though, it's barely gonna clear. So if you really need to, you can get access to the back of your Airstream. And in some scenarios, you might be able to fold this up.
And the way we can do that is by pressing this button here. This time we're gonna push up. And right now at the moment I am gonna clear. I will say you could probably have a max of roughly a little bit over 12 inches. As long as you keep it below that, you shouldn't make contact with anything.
But this is also another really good point to bring up weight capacity. Because the cargo carrier itself is rated for 500 pounds. I would say if you have anything that is really low profile, I wouldn't recommend putting it up like this, if it's really heavy. If it's anything like these sleeping bags or any type of cargo bag, that's gonna be fine for the most part. In those other cases, I recommend keeping it in this position. Also keep in mind that is made pretty heavy to lift up and down. Well, something that is nice for the cargo carrier itself, is it is gonna be made from aluminum, so it's gonna be more lightweight. And the last thing I want to add to that weight capacity is it's important for you to just check what your hitch is rated for on your vehicle, just so you don't damage anything. And then we can simply remove this just by undoing these buckles all around it. Once you have these removed, you can pretty much just take it off. Now I will say there is gonna be a little pouch here in the center. You can store stuff in there, or you can also fold it into itself so it's a lot more compact. Now I removed everything so I can get a couple measurements to see how this sits back here. So the first thing I want to measure is gonna be the ground clearance. Right now we are gonna be about a little bit over 20 inches from the ground, which is really good. Even if you have this loaded up with a bunch of gear, you shouldn't make contact with the ground. Now for the total distance away it sits from our vehicle, this is gonna be roughly a little bit over 44 inches. So that's gonna sit out kind of far for a cargo carrier, but what we get out of that is some folding capabilities, like I showed you earlier. So with nothing on here, really easy to do, especially with that button. And now we are only gonna be sitting just about 17 inches. But that brings me to the next point. With this design, it works really well in the back of the Airstream. And the reason being is because we have this rung style. With these rung styles, it allows more airflow for your gear on here, but it doesn't block too much of the back of the vehicle. So I can still see my license plate. Your backup camera should still work on here since it does sit pretty high up. And this is gonna sit in between your actual taillights and it's not gonna block your back window. And the way this is gonna install is we're gonna have a two inch shank, and it's gonna go into your two inch hitch receiver. To make this process easier with lining up that pin. We are gonna have this alignment collar
