Em Cosmetics launched their Portrait Mode Setting Powder in one translucent shade for $38. Its blurring, mattifying, controls shine for several hours, and has the most gorgeous packaging I’ve seen in recent memory. #ad
I was one of the lucky few to test this powder weeks before it launched and it’s become a staple in my routine. Here’s my favorite way to use it: after I apply my foundation, concealer, and cream bronzer, then I go in with Portrait Mode to set my skin and prep it for powder blush and highlighter. This ensures my face has an even, smooth base and the powders won’t apply patchy or uneven.

What I like about this powder (aside from the GORGEOUS packaging!!) is that it blurs and mattifies skin without clinging to dry spots or texture. On my combination skin that gets very oily when I wear makeup, this controls shine for about three hours, which is pretty exceptional for a pressed powder. And after those three hours I only get a tiny bit shiny in my T-zone.
My favorite quality is the blurring effect. While most powders will provide some level of blurring, this has silica to create an airbrushed effect that I absolutely love. You can see in the footage just how much it smoothed my skin texture.
I also really like the thin powder puff that comes with it, it works very well with the formula.
