Galatasaray footballer İlkay Gündoğan said they needed to learn lessons from their 5-1 away defeat to German side Eintracht Frankfurt in the first week of the UEFA Champions League.
İlkay spoke to the press after the match at Frankfurt Stadium.
The experienced footballer said they were very disappointed with the defeat, adding, "We started the match very well. We scored in the first 35-40 minutes. We had chances to score a second goal. We conceded very simple goals. That made us unhappy. Starting the second half 3-1 down was difficult for us. We tried our best, but unfortunately, it wasn't enough. We weren't good; we made simple mistakes that any team in the Champions League would punish."
Expressing his confidence in the team's potential, the yellow-and-red player said, “This should be a lesson for us. Better opponents await us in the upcoming matches. I hope we learn from this match. I believe in this team. I see a lot of quality here. Hopefully, we will take this as a lesson and get the points we want in the Champions League.”
