A Diamondback Water Snake (Nerodia rhombifer) slowly swallows a Catfish (family Ictaluridae) -- maybe a Channel Catfish (Ictalurus punctatus) -- in a patch of Water Hyacinth (Pontederia crassipes) along Shadow Creek Ranch Nature Trail, in Pearland, TX, USA. It looks like Snake is having particular trouble getting the Catfish's dorsal fin to fit in its mouth. But apparently these sorts of Snakes have a particular fondness for Catfish. So the fin must just be a minor inconvenience.
