A Sigil Lady Beetle (Hyperaspis sp.) larva wanders around on the trunk of a Crape Myrtle tree (Lagerstroemia sp.) at the Japanese Garden in Hermann Park, Houston, TX, USA. It's probably looking for Scale bugs or other similar insects on the tree (which are excreting the dew that is causing the black mold growing on the tree trunk), but the Lady Beetle stumbles instead on a Brown Anole (Anolis sagrei), and unfortunately, the larvae approaches unexpectedly from the lizard's blind side and surprises it, causing the Anole to hop up and land onto the Sigil Lady Beetle, squashing it.
