Today we archive the very first game I ever got for my original Xbox. I just got into highschool and was already familiar with the Dead or Alive series on the PlayStation 2. I loved the mix between awesome action and the cheeky tone of the female characters. Therefore I was very surprised when a volleyball game was announced that starred all our favorite girls from the series. And playing this game many years later really made me feel nostalgic and also realizing that the first two games are pretty good with the amount of content that is on offer. The second game is still the best in the series as the amount of minigames and activities is greatly increased, but there is a lot to do here as well.
You find yourself on the island during a vacation that lasts two weeks. During those two weeks you will have to get to know the other girls, give them presents to earn their trust and partake in volleyball matches to earn money.
The volleyball itself is actually quite deep with many different moves you can make and the AI can differ from being really challenging to ridiculously easy. But I have heard the argument before that people "actually play this for the volleyball" which is a load of BS. The game offers cheeky fun and its nice to look at and never oversteps a boundry to where it becomes uncomfortable. While playing this I made myself a nice fruit cocktail and felt like I was on vacation a bit myself. The pacing of the game is just super relaxed with you buying accessories, swimsuits and gifts for the other girls or just taking a stroll down the beach or even going to a casino at night that offers different minigames. There is definitley room for improvement like more minigames and animations while resting. Dead or Alive Xtreme 2 did all that and still holds the crown as the best in the DOAX series, but this game was my first Xbox title and will therefore always hold a special place for me.
