The wait is finally over and a new official chapter in the long running Resident Evil series has arrived. Resident Evil 9 Requiem promises to be Capcom's biggest game yet for the franchise and they absolutely delivered. I am a huge fan of the old Resident Evil games when it was all revolving around horror and suspense. Then I also adored Resident Evil 4 and loved how the action was combined with stressful and moments that made you panic.
After that the series went in a direction that I did not like as they ignored the horror and mostly focused on action. But then Resident Evil 7 was released and won me back as I remember that being the Game of the Year when it came out.
With Resident Evil Requiem the developers have tried to appeal to both fans of the old games and the new, action focused titles. And the end result is one of the most unique and awesome entries yet.
We play as both Grace Ashcroft and Leon Kennedy. Grace's gameplay is best enjoyed in first person and feels like a blend of Resident Evil 1, Resident Evil 7 and the first part of Resident Evil 8. The pace is slow and thrilling as you solve various puzzles and explore a gorgeous hospital.
In between these sections you sometimes switch over to Leon and then get that awesome action gameplay you know and love from Resident Evil 4. It was cool too to see that the UI was used from the different games for each specific character.
The game is long, varied and has some awesome fan service for long time fans of the series. There were some really good scares in this and memorable boss battles. Probably the weakest part is the ending and that unfortunately is the case for most Resident Evil games since the final areas are usually not that interesting in terms of visuals, but also gameplay. But other than that it is a solid entry and probably earns a spot in the top 5 of best Resident Evil games.
