That’s because the praying hands technique isn’t about creating curl — it’s about smoothing first.
Praying hands works by:
• Pressing strands together so they lay more evenly
• Smoothing surface frizz where light is hitting through the hair
• Helping product distribute before definition
This step can stretch the curl a bit — and that’s okay!
The key is what comes after:
Praying hands = smoothing
Scrunching = curl definition
You smooth first to control frizz, then scrunch to bring the curl back. That’s how you balance frizz control and definition, especially on longer hair or hair that tends to separate.
This is one of those small technique tweaks that can completely change how your curls clump.
