If gel isn’t making it all the way to your roots, your curls are basically naked up there. And naked curls = frizz.
That’s why getting product to the root matters so much, especially if you diffuse for volume. Diffusing gives lift, but it can also make flyaways go wild if they don’t have any hold.
What I usually do:
✨ make sure gel reaches the root
✨ tuck in the little pieces that pop out
✨ touch up after diffusing, if needed
✨ use a tiny bit of gel or a light mist of hairspray
But here’s the key part:
If you use hairspray, you have to physically push the flyaways into place. Otherwise, you’re just freezing them exactly how they are.
And sometimes, the truth is that new growth just needs time. Until those hairs are long enough to join a curl clump, all you can really do is give them gentle hold and patience.
