Mermaid Sunglasses Case Pattern:
Crochet Hook: G/6/4.25MM
Yarn: 4 Medium, Cotton
Attach yarn to crochet hook using a slip knot.
Row 1: CH 17, turn.
Row 2: Working in 2nd CH from crochet hook, place 1 SC in the BLO of each st in the row (16 total SC). Turn work toward the tail (so you can access the FLO from Row 1). Place 1 SC in the FLO of each st in the row (16 total SC). SL st in the 1st SC to join (32 total SC in the round).
Row 3: CH 2, working in the following st, place 1 DC in each st in the row. Skip SL st and CH 2, then SL st in the 1st DC to join (31 total DC st).
Row 4: Place 1 FRONT POST st in the current st and the next 2 st, then working backwards, place 1 TR FRONT POST st in the CH 2 post. *Skip the next DC, then place 1 FRONT POST st in the following 3 st. Working backwards in the skipped DC st, place 1 TR FRONT POST st.* Repeat * around the row for a total of 8 Mermaid Swirl st (32 total st). Skip the SL st at the end of the row, and SL st into the top of the 1st FRONT POST st.
Row 3: Place 1 FRONT POST st in the current st and the next 2 st (these should be FRONT POST stitches in your previous row), then working backwards, place 1 TR FRONT POST st around the last TR FRONT POST st from the previous row - making sure you work under the post of this st. *Skip the next TR FRONT POST st, then place 1 FRONT POST st in the following 3 st. Working backwards in the skipped TR FRONT POST st, place 1 TR FRONT POST st around the post.* Repeat * around the row for a total of 8 Mermaid Swirl st (32 total st). Skip the SL st at the end of the row, and SL st into the top of the 1st FRONT POST st.
Rows 4 - 17: Repeat Row 3. It is normal for the seam to slowly move backwards while placing these subsequent rows.
Row 18: Place SL st in each st in the row (keep them loose) until you get to one of the natural folds (if you lay the sunglasses case down flat, you want your crochet hook to be on one of the two folds). Then in the subsequent stitches place: 1 SC, 1 DC, 2 DC, 2 DC, 1 DC, 1 SC, 1 SL, 1 SL, 1 SC, 1 DC, 2 DC, 2 DC, 1 DC, 1 SC, 1 SL, 1 SL, 1 SC, 1 DC, 2 DC, 2 DC, 1 DC, 1 SC, 1 SL, 1 SL, 1 SC, 1 DC, 2 DC, 2 DC, 1 DC, 1 SC, 1 SL, 1 SL.
