Crochet Sunglasses Case Pattern
Crochet Hook: J/10/5.75MM
Yarn: Any FOUR strands - scrap yarn is ideal for this project OR follow along with my Storage Solutions four skein challenge, using the Lion Brand Yarns Re-Up Recycled Cotton and Polyester Blend yarn (size 4, Medium weight, colors Rust and Sea Glass).
**NOTE: For this entire project, we are going to be crocheting two strands as if they are one strand.
With two strands of Color A yarn, starting with whichever color you want in the background, attach yarn to the crochet hook using a slip knot. Place a long rope of chain stitches, then pull a long loop out and remove your crochet hook. You want to be able to add additional chain stitches as necessary.
Row 1: Using the two strands of Color B yarn, attach yarn to crochet hook using a slip knot and CH 9. At the end of the row, with the current loop still on the crochet hook, insert the crochet hook in the 1st CH st from the chain rope (beside the starting tail). Yarn over with Color B yarn and pull through all of the loops on the crochet hook.
Row 2: From here until the end of the pattern, we are going to be working OVER our chain rope as well as in our normal stitches. Working the BLO of each remaining st in the row, place 1 SC (again working over the CH rope). At the end of the row, turn work slightly toward the starting tail and place 1 SC in the FLO of each CH st from Row 1 (creating a large oval) (19 total SC st in the round).
Rows 3 - 16: Working a spiral pattern around the oval you created in Row 2, place 1 SC in each st in each row.
Row 17: Make sure you have ended the last row so that there are 14 total rows on both sides. Lay the sunglasses case down flat and end the last SC st on the next natural fold. Keep the currently loop on your crochet hook while you complete the following steps: pull out the remaining CH stitches from the CH rope until only one loop is sticking out of the last SC st. Insert crochet hook in that loop (you should have Color A & B on your crochet hook now). Insert crochet hook in the following st and yarn over and pull through all the loops on your crochet hook (you should have dropped Color A entirely at this point). Then working only with Color B and no longer over your chain rope, place 1 SL st in each st until you make it back to the fold on the other side.
Cut current Color B yarn, then insert crochet hook in the following st and yarn over all pull all the way through so you drop everything on your crochet hook. Pull tail tightly to secure.
With Color A tail, cut the yarn and insert your crochet hook in one of the loops close by. Tie of Color A using the loop and then hide both tails down the inside of the sunglasses case.
